Why Buying On Sale May Be No Deal At All

Are you more likely to buy something just because it’s on sale?

Funny how a sale sign can make you consider buying a less than perfect item.  AskDecor says don’t do it. Instead of buying several lower cost items, splurge on one WOW statement piece.  Save your money for something that is really unique–something that reflects your personality.

Most of us won’t hesitate to spend $35 on three basic items but we’ll walk away from a beautiful $100 item because it’s too expensive.  But mixing high and low, expensive and inexpensive, creates a more interesting and intriguing decor.

This is the time of year when everything is going on sale.  Retailers are smart.  They want to entice you to buy.  If it’s a special, unique item that works perfectly in your home, enjoy your new purchase.  If you need help figuring out the perfect and unique for your room, we can help youClick here to see the services we offer to handpick design for your room.

Our Favorite Go-To Paint Colors

in Paint Colors

Nothing freshens up a room like a new paint color on the walls so we’d like to show you some of our favorite go-to paint colors.  Best of all, you can order samples online.  To test out a color, we recommend that you paint a square of color inside the white borders of a poster board that you can get at your local stationary store.  When you see the color against a white border, you will see its true hue.  You can move the poster board to different walls in your room to see how light and shadows affect the color.

If you like the idea of a new paint color but would like a little individualized help, we can handpick paint colors just for your room. Find out exactly how this service works here>>.

Please note that colors look very different on every computer screen and you will want to order samples or go to your local paint store that carries these brands to see the actual color.  You can order Benjamin Moore paint colors online at http://www.myperfectcolor.com/ and you can order Farrow & Ball paint colors at http://us.farrow-ball.com/ .

Sell Your Home Fast with 3 Easy Designer Tips

October 5, 2010 by · Comments Off
in Selling Your Home

Potential home buyers need to see themselves living in your space.  Speed up the process of selling your home with these 3 easy designer tips.

1)  Remove the “stuff”. Real life is messy.  We accumulate things over time.  But when you’re selling your home, you need to clear the clutter.  Rent a storage facility and fill it with children’s games and toys, books, furniture, clothes, pictures, and accessories.  The goal is to end up with rooms that give the illusion of having lots of space and that appeal to a broad group of people who will be coming into your home. Think about a time when you visited a professionally decorated model home in a new development.   Typically, the designers select furniture pieces that have some height but not as much depth.  They don’t want furniture that sticks too far out into the rooms.  They use tiny night stands in the smaller rooms and a few well-chosen accessories.  They don’t display tons of family photos because that much personalization makes it hard for potential buyers to picture themselves living in the space.  So if you have tons of family pictures or if you are an avid collector, pare down to just a few items that you leave for others to see and store everything else.  Not only will this help others visualize their things in the space, but it will keep your things safe.

2)  Repair and refresh. There are two reasons to refresh the wall paint in your homes.  First, scuff marks and chips shws the wear and tear on homes pretty quickly.  People have deep, emotional connections to paint colors.  You want to avoid a bad connection by staying with lighter, neutral paint color which will help to make your rooms appear larger.  We like Benjamin Moore’s Monroe Bisque HC-26 and Clay Beige OC-11.  Use one of these and you’ll get lots of compliments.  If your carpeting needs to be replaced, go with something that matches or is similar in color to the neutral walls and your rooms will look larger.

3)  Make it welcoming. When potential buyers are coming to your home, make them feel like they’re at a party.  Add a planter of seasonal color just outside the front door.  Put fresh flowers and bowls of fresh fruit in different rooms of your home.  Make sure a nice towel is showing in the bathroom.  Put on some soft background music and make sure the house smells fresh.  Make sure those windows are spotless and if it’s a nice day, let the fresh air flow into your home.  If it’s cold out, make your home warm and cozy.  Remember that once potential buyers see themselves living in the space, they’ll be motivated to make an offer!
