How To Fill Large Walls
Many people find the large walls in their homes daunting. A very large piece of artwork would look lovely but it may be out of your price range or simply not to be found in the size you need. Don’t despair.
Groupings work exceedingly well on large walls.
It can be a grouping of almost anything that can be collected. Colorful, patterned plates are a favorite with designers but some other great ideas are faux antlers, clocks, mirrors, framed photos, candle sconces, and porcelain jars sitting on small brackets. The greatest thing about collections is that they don’t have to be expensive and you can upgrade the quality of your collection over time.
Collections work very well if you unify them with color.
Don’t be afraid to paint out the brackets upon which you place a collection of similarly colored ginger jars. The same is true with photos and mirror frames. Painting out the frames will focus your attention on the sculptural shape of the display.
The easiest way to arrange groupings is symmetrically with one larger item in the center.
The center item can be part of the collection or a neutral item like a large round mirror. Because of the beauty of symmetrical arrangements—both on walls and tabletop—it makes sense to buy items in pairs if you have the opportunity. We recommend arranging your collection on the floor. To be precise, you can tape white butcher paper together to the size of your arrangement and then place the items on the paper. Outline each item on the paper and number the actual item with a corresponding number within the drawn outline. Then tape the paper on the wall and nail right through it. When you are done, tear off the white paper and hang your corresponding items in each spot.
Your arrangements can be quirky and fun. They should exude your personality. And you can continually upgrade the quality of your collections as you see new and better items in your travels.
